Shanghai dialogue on pressing energy and climate issues 2026

Building a competitive and low-carbon energy future – partner event with Agora Energy China and Agora Industry

About this event

As global climate action shifts from target-setting to implementation, 2026 marks a pivotal year for the energy transition and the start of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030). Amid geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions, accelerating renewable energy deployment, strengthening power system resilience and transforming key industries are essential to achieving climate goals while safeguarding energy security and industrial competitiveness.

The Shanghai Dialogue 2026 brings together representatives from government, research and academia, business, industry and other key stakeholder groups from China, Europe, Southeast Asia and the wider Global South to exchange perspectives, share policy and technological experience, and explore practical pathways towards a competitive, secure and low-carbon energy future. Organised by Agora Energy China and the School of Political Science and International Relations at Tongji University, in collaboration with Agora Energiewende and Agora Industry, the Shanghai Dialogue is a supporting event of the China International Import Expo (CIIE).

Through international exchange and experience-sharing, the Shanghai Dialogue 2026 seeks to strengthen cooperation across green industrial value chains and advance pragmatic, mutually beneficial solutions that align decarbonisation with economic development and energy security.

Programme
This year’s Shanghai Dialogue will focus on three core topics, across a series of public meetings as well as closed-door sessions under the Chatham House Rule:
