Infrastructure planning to enable a climate-neutral energy system
It’s not only the energy mix that’s changing – infrastructure planning must keep pace.
Event Recording
What this event is about
Europe’s transition to a climate-neutral energy system powered by clean, renewable sources requires not only a shift in sources, but also the infrastructure to support it. Achieving this efficiently and cost-effectively demands planning processes that reflect the growing integration of energy systems across Europe and sectors.
To explore how this can be achieved, Agora Energiewende – together with think tank partners Forum Energii, IDDRI, EPG and ECCO – commissioned Fraunhofer IEG and ISI, along with d-fine, to model scenarios illustrating the benefits of more integrated infrastructure planning. Drawing on these modelling results and extensive stakeholder dialogue, the think tanks have developed recommendations for improving cross-sectoral infrastructure planning across Europe.
In this webinar, we presented the modelling approach and key findings that inform these recommendations. Partners from Poland, Italy, Romania and France also shared insights from their national contexts and discussed what more integrated planning could mean for Europe’s path to climate neutrality.
