Infrastructure planning to enable a climate neutral energy system

It’s not just the energy mix that’s changing, we need to plan for the infrastructure too! As the energy system evolves, planning for infrastructure supporting it must change too.

What this event is about

Europe’s transition to a climate-neutral energy system supported by clean, renewable energy requires not only a shift in energy sources, but also the infrastructure to support that new system. To efficiently and cost-effectively develop that infrastructure, planning processes must reflect the increased integration of the system across Europe and across sectors.

Agora Energiewende, along with think tank partners Forum Energii, IDDRI, EPG and ECCO, commissioned Fraunhofer IEG and ISI along with d-fine to model scenarios to consider the importance of more integrated infrastructure planning. With the results from the modelling analysis, in combination with significant stakeholder outreach over the course of the project, the think tanks make recommendations about improvements for more integrated cross-sectoral infrastructure planning across Europe.

With this webinar, we will present the process and results of the modelling work underpinning our recommendations about improvements to infrastructure planning. In addition, we will share insights from think tank partners in Poland, Italy, Romania and France from their varied national perspectives.
