Oeko-Institut is a leading European research and consultancy institute working for a sustainable future. Founded in 1977, the institute develops principles and strategies for realising the vision of sustainable development globally, nationally and locally.

The Oeko-Institut’s key clients are ministries and federal agencies, industrial enterprises and the European Union.

Oeko-Institut employs more than 155 staff, including about 100 researchers at three locations in Germany – Freiburg, Darmstadt and Berlin. They complete approximately 350 projects each year, tackling both national and international issues. Work is organised around the subjects of Chemicals Management and Technology Assessment, Energy and Climate, Immission and Radiation Protection, Agriculture and Biodiversity, Sustainability in Consumption, Mobility, Resource Management and Industry, Nuclear Engineering and Facility Safety as well as Law, Policy and Governance.
